Nigeria on Tuesday signed a declaration on economic cooperation with European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
The declaration, to be implemented by a joint commission of both parties allows them to work within a framework that will facilitate increased trade and investment flow.
The areas of cooperation under the declaration include trade in goods; digital economy including e-commerce; trade in services; protection of intellectual property rights including enforcement; customs and tariffs and trade facilitation; trade and sustainable development; trade and investment related issues pertaining to small and medium sized enterprises and any other areas of cooperation as agreed by both parties.

In a release by APO Group, the Director General of Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOFTN), and Chief Negotiator, Ambassador Chinedu Osakwe, commenting on the declaration said, “at this 11th WTO Ministerial Conference, Nigeria has re-established itself on economic and trade policy leadership globally. And it is coming on the heels of Nigeria’s drive last week in Niamey, Niger last week, to bring the negotiations for the Continental Free Trade Area ( CFTA) Agreement closer to reality.”
The declaration was signed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on the sidelines of the on going 11th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Members of the EFTA include Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Switzerland.
