The Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, has cautioned corps members under the National Youth Service Corps scheme to live moderately and decently during the service year.

The governor who spoke through his deputy, Otunba Moses Alake Adeyemo, gave the advice during the closing ceremony/terminal parade for 2017 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) corps members deployed to the state.

Ajimobi said that the ostentatious lifestyle of some youth called for concern.

Ajimobi said that the youth corps members should see themselves as role models to nurture greatness in the younger ones since majority of them would be posted to schools to teach.

“As ambassadors of this great country Nigeria, you should be seen and act as great Nigerians whose modest lifestyle will attract younger ones to you for proper nurturing and guidance.

“Your conduct especially mode of dressing at your places of primary assignment should reflect the disciplined training you are exposed to in these past three weeks where bogus lifestyles are discouraged,” he said.

The governor reminded the service corps members that the government will not shirk in its responsibility of ensuring safety of their lives and minimum comfort during the service year.

“Our government is a responsible one and we shall not fail to provide adequate security for you wherever you may be posted during the service year.

“However, let me sound this note of warning that despite your privileged status, we shall not tolerate any act of indiscipline or unbecoming behaviour that is capable of threatening the relative peace we are enjoying in the state.

“Anyone who violates the law of the land or engages in activities which is detrimental to the growth and development of the state shall be severely dealt with in accordance with the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

Earlier in her welcome address, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Ifeoma Anidobi charged the corps members to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to earn additional money aside their allowance.

Mrs. Anidobi used the occasion to inform the governor that the positive disposition of the government and good people of Oyo State has attracted more corps participants to the Pacesetter State.
