The suspected billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans on Friday sought for bail at the Lagos State High Court.

He also asked for an acceleration of his trial.

Evans made the requests during the resumed sitting of his trial.

But the prosecuting counsel, Titilayo Shitta-Bay, opposed the bail application, arguing that it amounted to an abuse of court process and an attempt to frustrate the trial.

She added that the bail application and the request that bail should be granted and that the charges brought against him be quashed were conflicting and confusing.

Arrested by the police on June 10 in Lagos, Evans has been in the custody of the police.

He is being probed for kidnapping among other crimes, including murder.

During his initial appearance in court, he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Event took a different dimension however, when, during the continuation of his trial, he reversed his position.

This time around, he said he was no longer guilty.
