Former First Lady of Akwa Ibom state and wife of Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, today donated bags of rice, cash gifts and other items worth millions of Naira to inmates of Ikot Ekpene Correctional Centre.

The gesture, which conforms with her ideals resulting from the need for continued support to such institutions and the most vulnerable in the society, is meant to show love to the inmates in the spirit of Christmas.

Speaking at the event, which was graced by DCP Patrick Chukwuemeka, the former First-Lady represented by Mrs. Kennedy Ekong, extended felicitations to all the inmates and wished them Merry Christmas and God’s blessing in the new year.

Mrs. Akpabio further admonished the inmates to shun acts capable of destabilizing the centre and imbibe the virtues of Christ while serving their various jail terms.

In his remarks, DCP Patrick Chukwuemeka lauded the gesture of the former First Lady and commended her for taking the welfare of the inmates as a priority.

He also appealed to the inmates to remain law-abiding while serving their various jail terms.
