Ibom Air has partnered the Akwa Ibom Government to fight against malaria in pregnant women and children by donating 50, 000 doses of anti-malaria medications.
Mr George Uriesi, who made the donation on Friday on behalf of Ibom Air said it was part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to reduce the burden of malaria in affected communities.
Uriesi said the 30,000 doses of Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine, 10, 000 doses of Lokmal DT and 10, 000 doses of Paracetamol DT were in commemoration of the 2026 World Malaria Day, celebrated annually on April 25.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of 2026 world malaria day is; “Driven to end malaria, Now we can, Now we must.”
Mrs Imelda Aba, Group Manager for Corporate Services at Ibom Air, said the airline believed that their responsibility extended beyond flying passengers to their destinations.
“Through FAMPact, we are investing directly in the health and well-being of our communities.
“This year’s donation and the awareness walk are reminders that malaria is preventable, and everyone has a role to play.
“We are proud to partner with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to drive this message home,” she said.
Receiving the donation, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Ekem Emmanuel, thanked Ibom Air for the medications, stressing that they would be judiciously used in the treatment of malaria.
Emmanuel noted that the donation by the company in the last three years had been showcasing the airline’s genuine passion for health as one of its core corporate social responsibility pillars.
He said this year’s theme resonated strongly with the FAMPact mission to drive community engagement and amplify conversations around malaria prevention strategies to protect the vulnerable.
“Malaria remains one of Nigeria’s leading causes of death, especially among pregnant women and children under five.
“We commend Ibom Air for its sustained commitment to the fight against malaria.
“This donation comes at a critical time and will significantly support our efforts to protect pregnant women and children.
“We encourage all Akwa Ibom residents to turn out for the walk and join hands with us to end malaria,” Emmanuel said.
NAN reports that to further amplify the message, Ibom Air with members of the public, staged a street walk across Ibom Plaza to Nwaniba to create awareness and celebrate the day.
