Twenty-one-year-old Rachel Apene, who allegedly bit off the left thumb of a man at a lounge in Surulere, on Friday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Apene, of No. 29, Oyekan St., Surulere, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault.
The Prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that Apene committed the offence on Jan. 18, at 1.00 a.m. at No. 18, Oyekan Road, Surulere, Lagos.
Ekhueorohan alleged that Apene and the complainant, one Mr. Sunny Onwordi, were involved in an argument over a spilled drink at the lounge.
He noted that while the two were still arguing over the drink, Apene angrily grabbed the complainant’s left hand and bit off his thumb.
The prosecutor said that before the complainant was taken to the hospital, guests at the lounge searched for part of the thumb Apene bit off, but couldn’t find it.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 246 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Sadiq Bello admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Bello said that the surety must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until March 3 for further hearing. (NAN)
