The Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Abuja, has affirmed Yahaya Bello as the duly elected governor of Kogi state.
With a majority judgment of two-to-one the Tribunal on Saturday declared Bello as the winner of the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.
Justice Kashim Kaigama, head of the three-member panel, and Justice Baraka Wali, dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate in the election, Musa Wada on the ground that they failed to prove any of the grounds of their petition.
However, Justice Ohimai Ovbiagele in his dissent judgment, upheld the petitioners’ case and nullified the results in seven out of the 21 local government areas in the state.
He sacked Bello as the winner of the election and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election in seven local governments within 90 days.
