Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, said the Senate will open an investigation into the conviction of six Nigerians in the UAE for wiring $782,000 to Boko Haram.
Bamidele, stated this on Monday while speaking with journalists.
He disclosed that his committee was not aware of the arrest and imprisonment of the six persons, until it was reported in the news.
Notwithstanding, he said the committee was ready to find out the true position of things.
The Next Edition had reported that an Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) convicted six Nigerians over alleged funding of Boko Haram.
The conviction was upheld by the appellate court after they lost an earlier appeal at a lower court.
The UAE authorities had found that most of the transactions were facilitated by two undercover Boko Haram agents based in Nigeria. One of them was identified as “Alhaji Sa’idu.”

The other “Alhaji Ashiru” was described as “a Nigerian government official.”
Meanwhile, Bamidele, said the Senate was working with the relevant committees of the House of Representatives on the amount earmarked for the prosecution of Boko Haram suspects.
“These are some of the issues before us as a committee.
“It’s not just the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, the House Committee on Justice is also working with us on this matter,” he stated.
