A former Senate leader, Ali Ndume has said the endorsement of Senator Ahmad Lawan as the All Progressives Congress candidate, APC, for the position of Senate President of the Ninth National Assembly was unconstitutional.

He said he already has the blessings of both President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu.

Ndume, who spoke with journalists in Abuja said that the choice of Lawan was an unpopular decision, unilaterally carried out by the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

He explained that Buhari and Tinubu, gave him their consent when JZ approached them for their blessings over his ambition to contest the Senate presidency.”

Expressing shock at the turn of events, Ndume said he would consult the leaders of the party in the North East and his supporters in the upper chamber before taking a final position on the issue.

He said, “All my colleagues at the occasion yesterday, Monday, were shocked when Adams Oshiomhole unilaterally announced his decision to endorse Lawan as candidate of the party.

“It is an unpopular decision because I am sure that President Buhari and other leaders of the party are not in support of that action. None of the stakeholders was also consulted.”
