Oyo State Government has threatened to revoke the contracts it awarded over some road projects in the state.
The threat followed the slow pace at which the government said the projects were being carried out.
The government said unless the contractors moved fast, it might consider the option of cancelling their contracts.
The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Wasiu Dauda, gave the warning during the inspection tour of ongoing projects.
He said some of the contractors had failed to meet the stipulated time for the completion of their projects.
Mr. Dauda said that the present administration was determined to speed up the ongoing road construction in the state to ease the pains of the people and minimise the inconveniences motorists faced while plying the routes of the ongoing projects.
The Commissioner urged the contractors to increase their output in order to meet up with the government deadline, saying that government would not hesitate to revoke any contract in which the contractor had not performed to expectation and executing shoddy jobs.
“We are inspecting some of the ongoing projects in the state. The level of work at the ongoing rehabilitation of the Moniya-Iseyin Road is to slow. It is important for the contractors to fast track action on these projects. I am not satisfied with the level of their work and people have even questioned the government why the work is slow or delayed. We want the contractors to speed up their work.”
Mr. Dauda appealed to the residents and motorists plying the roads to be more patient, saying that the government was doing everything in its capacity to ensure that the projects were completed before the end of the present administration.

The Commissioner, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Oyesola Oyetunji, and some directors in the Ministry inspected the dualization of Agodi-Gate-Old Ife Road, the expansion of Oke-Ado- Iwo Road interchange, Idi Ape-Bashorun-Akobo Road and Moniya-Iseyin road projects.
Project Manager of Chevret Nig. Ltd, the contractor handling the Iwo Road-Old Ife Road, Engr. Okeke Kenechukwu, promised that the construction firm would expedite action on the road project and deliver at the stipulated period.
