The Presidency has reacted to the claim that US President Donald Trump described President Muhammadu Buhari as lifeless.

Trump was quoted by the Financial Times as saying that he never wanted to meet someone as lifeless as Buhari again.

But speaking on a Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said the Presidency was not bothered by the claim as it could not be verified.

According to him, somebody might have planted it because it was not ascribed to anyone.

His words:  “If it is unverified as it came out, then the presidency has no comment. It does not pass any concerns of good journalism.”

He added that the claim could not have any effect on the electoral fortune of the president.

He said: “Nigerians are the ones that would ultimately elect their president; no foreign power will determine who gets elected.

“That does not worry us because it is unsubstantiated, unverified. Anybody could have planted it; you know that in the jostle for power people can do anything.”
