Power Sector Loses N1.3 b in One Day – Report

The power sector, on Monday, lost an estimated N1.3 billion due to insufficient gas supply, distribution and transmission infrastructure.

This disclosure, was contained in a daily energy report compiled by the Advisory Power Team, Office of the Vice President, released Tuesday night in Abuja.

The report also noted that Electricity Generating Companies, GenCos, comprising gas-fired and hydro stations, released an average of 3, 919 MegaWatts, MW, of power into the national grid on the same day.

It said that the energy released by the companies rose by 139.64MW from what was delivered on Sunday.

A further breakdown by the report showed that, 1,808MW was not generated due to unavailability of gas; 728MW was not generated due to high frequency as a result of unavailability of distribution infrastructures, while 289 MW was recorded as losses due to water management procedures.

On sector reform and activities, the report, said that unavailability of gas was the major constraint for Monday’s generation.
