The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has set up a special panel to investigate complaints and petitions of alleged bribery by police officers for special promotion.
The setting up of the panel followed the claim by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Isah Misau, that police officers paid bribe for special promotion.
Misau made the allegation in an interview published by a newspaper.
But in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, investigation had begun over the allegation.
He said already, Misau who made the allegation had been invited by the panel for more details.
He said the panel set up by the Inspector General would examine the authenticity of the allegation, and probe other related complaints.

It will also determine the substance of the complaints, petitions and grievances from aggrieved police officers and members of the public on allegations of giving money for special promotion.
Moshood added that the panel would determine those involved in the matter, recommend appropriate judicial action and other punishments appropriate in line with the provisions of Public Service Rules Section 030401 (j) (k) and other statutory enabling laws/Acts.
The panel is given two weeks to submit its report to the Inspector General.
