Lawmakers in Ekiti State have ordered the immediate closure of the State House of Assembly.

The closure, they said, was until further notice.

The order they said followed the deployment of heavily armed policemen to the premises of the House of Assembly.

Stating the position of the legislator to journalists on Thursday, the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Kola Oluwawole, blamed the development on the lawmakers who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.

The lawmakers who defected were said to have forged a letter purportedly written by the Clerk, Mr. Tola Esan, and addressed to the Police Commissioner, Mr. Bello Ahmed, calling for deployment of a detachment of the police.

According to Oluwawole, there was no need for it.

He said the development was a grand design to cause confusion in the legislative house.

The legislative house, he said would remain shut until there was normalcy.

It would be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party had raised alarm over alleged plot to impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said that was one of the reasons a detachment of the police was deployed to the House of Assembly.

It however warned against such a move, saying it was a recipe for crisis.
