A High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to a former Director of Legal Affairs at the Nigerian Petroleum Ministry, Mrs. Grace Taiga, arraigned for alleged involvement in the controversial Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) contract.
Justice Olukayode Adeniyi, who granted her bail on Wednesday in the sum of N10m and two sureties in like sum, said the prosecution did not provide enough reasons why she should not be granted bail.
According to the court, the sureties must be resident in Abuja and must be public servants not below the level of directors.
They must also deposit affidavit of means before the court.
However, the judge refused to order that Mrs. Taiga submit her International Passport to the court because of her health condition, but rather she must not leave the country without first informing the court and her sureties.
Mrs. Taiga was arraigned last Friday and accused of facilitating the controversial contract and securing gratification to the tune of over $20, 000 while she served at the ministry in 2010.
Nigeria is currently battling to wriggle out of a $9.6 billion judgement debt against her by a UK court as a result of the contract.
P&ID an Irish multinational firm had had been contracted to build a gas processing plant in Nigeria but the deal fell apart because the country failed to honour her part of the contract.
Former Petroleum Minister, Dr. Rilwan Lukman was also named in suit by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
