The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the safe return of the students and teachers who were kidnapped in Oyo State several months ago, describing their release as a relief to their families and the nation.
In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the opposition party commended the security agencies as well as individuals and organisations whose efforts contributed to the victims’ safe return.
While noting that details surrounding the rescue operation remain limited, the PDP expressed appreciation for all those involved in securing the release of the abductees.
“No one should be subjected to such trauma in the pursuit of education,” the party stated.
The PDP also urged the Federal Government to take decisive measures to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents, stressing that ensuring the safety of citizens is the primary responsibility of government.
“The protection of lives and property remains the first responsibility of government and is the irreducible minimum that our country and its citizens deserve,” the statement added.
