The number of member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defecting to the All Progressives Party, APC, in the House of Representatives increased on Thursday.

In separate letters to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Zephaniah Jisalo and Yusuf Tijjani, announced their defection to the APC from the PDP.

Jisalo represents AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory while Tijjani represents Okene/Ogori-Magogo Federal Constituency of Kogi State.

The letters were read at the plenary session by Dogara.

The two members increased the number of defection to APC, to five this year.

It would be recalled that earlier this year, Edward Pwajok (Plateau), Hassan Saleh (Benue) and Adamu Kamale (Adamawa) defected to the ruling APC.

In their letters, the two legislators blamed their defection on the division in the state chapters of their party.

Reacting to their defection, however, the minority whip of the House, Umar Barde, requested that the two legislators should vacate their seats.

According to him, Section 68 of Nigerian constitution was clear on the fact that a legislator would automatically vacate his seat if he/she leaves his political party without division.

The Speaker, however, cautioned that the fate of the members who defected could only be determined by the court.
