Senator Dino Melaye has rejected the results of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary in Kogi.
The primary election on Wednesday produced Musa Wada as the party’s flag bearer for the November 16 election.
Wada, a younger brother of the immediate past Governor, Idris Wada, scored 748 votes to clinch the ticket while Melaye received 70 votes to emerge fourth.
Coming a close second to Wada was Abubakar Mohammed Ibrahim, the son of a former governor, Ibrahim Idris (Ibro), who polled 710 votes while the immediate past governor, Capt. Wada, came third with 345 votes.
Reacting to the result however, Melaye described it “totally unacceptable.”
The Senator representing Kogi West took to his Twitter page to express his displeasure and disagreement with the conduct and the outcome of the exercise.
He said in the tweet: “It is ridiculous to declare a final result of PDP Governorship primary election in Kogi State when my votes sorted out yesterday in 8 out of 10 ballot boxes are missing.
“Only to declare votes in 2 out of 10 ballot boxes as my votes. Totally unacceptable.”
Recall that counting of votes had been disrupted in the early hours of Wednesday when gunmen invaded the Lokoja Confluence Stadium, venue of the primary election.
Votes in eight out of 10 ballot boxes had been sorted and counted before the disruption.
However, the exercise resumed later on Wednesday after a meeting between the Governor Umar Fintiri-led election panel and all the 13 aspirants.
Other results were, Aminu Suleiman- 55 votes, Victor Adoji-54, Erico Joseph- 42, AVM Saliu Atawodi (rtd.)- 11, Emmanuel Omebije- 9 votes, Mohammed Shuaibi- 4 votes, Bayo Michael- 2 votes and Jabiru Haruna- 0.
