The National Conscience Party (NCP) has faulted the statement credited to the Attorney General to the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, that Operation Amotekun is illegal, describing it as highly insulting to the people of the old Western Nigeria.
Fatai Ibu-Owo, NCP Chairman in Lagos State, said since the governors are the Chief Security Officers of their respective states, they have certain powers to put mechanism in place to curb insecurity in their areas.

He maintained that all the state governors, like current and the past presidents, had been collecting huge security votes, which they do not account for, without using such judiciously, stressing that the time had come to put the security votes at work.
The NCP chief said: “Since the Federal Government is not serious in putting an end to insecurity in Nigeria, let those who can, do it. In a nutshell, Operation Amotekun is legally backed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
