The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, through an Insurance company, Capital Express Assurance Limited, has presented a cheque for one million naira, as death benefit to the family of a late corps member, Aliyu Bunu.

News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the 27-year-old Bunu with Call-Up No: NYSC/ATB/2018/013270 and State Code Number: OG/18A/2456 died in his sleep at his place of primary assignment in Ogun state in 2018.

The incident happened three months to the end of Bubu’s national service.

At the presentation of the cheque to the family of the late corps member on Tuesday in Yola, the Adamawa NYSC Coordinator, Abubakar Mohammed, commended the Capital Express Insurance Limited for the speed in processing the benefit.

The NYSC coordinator noted that the organisation was postured for placing premium on the security and welfare of Corps members at all times.

The representative of the insurance company, Miss Gloria Ihezie, handed the cheque to the late corps member’s family at the office of the NYSC Adamawa State Coordinator.

Responding, Bunu Ahiwa, retired Superintendent of Police and father to the deceased expressed gratitude to NYSC for ensuring the timely disbursement of the benefit to families that lost their members while serving the nation.

“Although we are receiving this money with a heavy heart, I must say that what NYSC has done is worthy of emulation by other agencies of government.

“I was in my house when I suddenly received a call to come and collect something from NYSC in relation to my late son.
“I also want to use this medium to thank everybody, especially NYSC staff and Corps members for standing with my family at the time we lost Aliyu,” he said.
