Nigerian singers Stanley Omah Didia aka Omah Lay and Temilade Openiyi popularly known as Tems, and one Muyiwa Awomiyi, were reportedly remanded in prison in Uganda over the weekend.
According to reports, the trio would be expected to appear in court on Wednesday, December 16.
The Ugandan Police made this known Monday via its official Twitter handle, reports said.
In the tweet, the police said: “The Nigerian trio of Stanley Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openyi alias Tems and Muyiwa Awomiyi have been charged to court in Makindye on charges of Negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious diseases C/S 171 of the Penal Code Act.”

The news of the arrest was broken by a Ugandan journalist, Canary Mugume, who in a tweet gave details of the arrest:
“Just in: Nigerian Artist Omah lay has been arrested by Katwe police, together with the manager of the venue where he performed from last night; Dungu Ivan and the Events manager Prim Kasana, all are in custody, @Lukowoyesigyire confirms.”
According to reports, they traveled to Uganda for a concert.
Confirming his arrest Omah Lay tweeted about his ordeal on Sunday assuring his fans that he was fine.
Reports said they were arrested and charged to court for disobeying COVID-19 protocols and performing at an unauthorized concert.
On Monday, Omah Lay again explained what transpired via his Twitter handle.
“I’m just a singer trying to entertain, why am I being set up in Uganda? I didn’t organize a show, I came on stage and saw teeming fans and sang to them,” he tweeted.
He also tweeted about why he has not been given the right to a fair hearing saying the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been stopped by the police from securing his release.
