Nasarawa Killings: Council Boss Urges People to Eschew Provocative Statement

Mr Samuel Meshi, the Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa state has advised the people of the area to avoid provocative statements capable of igniting crisis.

Meshi, who made the call on Wednesday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Akwanga, also urged them to live in peace, in their interest and the state.

NAN reports that on April 14, suspected gunmen attacked and killed 16 people in Numa community of the area.

The council boss expressed sadness over the killings, adding that no community could achieve any meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancour.

He said: “God has reason why he creates people with different background and tribes and put them together in same place, hence the need for the people to embrace peace and live together as one.

“Peace is priceless and non-negotiable, that is why, I sue for peace among my people, especially between them and Fulani herdsmen in the area so that all of us can enjoy the fruit of our labour, he said.

The council boss restated the council’s continued commitment to initiate policies and programmes that would promote peace in the area and the state at large.

NAN reports that on Monday, April 15, Mohammed Akira, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal investigation Department, CID, who confirmed the incident in Numa community.

He said the command had mobilised its men and officers to the area to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
