The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has called on the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to jettison its planned industrial action over the delay in the implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage.

He appealed for more understanding and patriotism in handling the minimum wage issue pointing out that some states have commenced payment of the agreed minimum wage.

The N30, 000 minimum wage was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari in April 2019.

Lawan made the appeal on Wednesday while receiving the executives of the NLC and the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

The visitors were led by Mr. Ayuba Waba and Sunday Sabiyi.

“We should not encourage personal issue to overshadow our collective responsibility to nation building.

“We will journey with you to ensure absolute implementation of the minimum wage by the Federal government.” the Senate President said.

He also admonished PASAN to collaborate with the management and leadership of the National Assembly and to present issue-based arguments, instead on engaging in strike action to press home its demands.
