The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, on Monday, inducted 48 fresh doctors from the Enugu State University College of Medicine, Enugu.
Inducting the 10th batch of medical graduands of the college, through the Hippocratic Oath and council’s regulations, Dr T.A.B. Sanusi, Registrar of the council, urged the newly licensed doctors to be good ambassadors of their institution.
Sanusi, who was represented by Dr Henry Okwuikenye, cautioned them against going against the doctors’ oath, saying that the profession was built on nobility and service to humanity.
According to him, the council would not fail to sanction anyone appropriately, if they failed to abide by the rules and regulations guiding their conduct as medical doctors.
“We are watching you through the society, your other professional colleagues and even your course-mates.
“There is no hiding place, even if you travel abroad and commit professional misconduct and we know of it; we will still sanction or withdraw our license from you,’’ he said.
Earlier, Prof. Charles Eze, acting Vice Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, appreciated the council for accrediting the courses offered at the college of medicine.

Eze congratulated the inducted doctors and urged them to continue to do the institution proud in the society.
He also lauded Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his tremendous support to the institution, in terms of infrastructure provision and meeting accreditation requirements for courses.
“Today, the degree you have acquired and your induction should be a stepping stone for you to aim high, and within a couple of years you become consultants,’’ he told the graduands.
Also speaking, Provost of the college, Prof. Frank Ezugwu, lauded the lecturers of the college for their sacrifice of continuing to teach the students, via online classes, during the COVID-19 lockdown and ASUU strike.
“We have equipped you with all that it takes to make us proud as you face the challenges in the medical practice proper. I know you people will continue to make this great college proud,’’ Ezugwu said.
The provost also thanked the council for its cooperation with the college, saying that the positive relationship should be sustained for mutual benefit.
The best graduating student, Miss Esther Nneji, who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, thanked the lecturers, management and parents for seeing them through their studies. (NAN)
