The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 28 years old man, Ernest William Bassey, for robbery and cultism.
He was arrested on Friday, last week, after a sustained monitoring of his activities by the command’s anti-cultism team along Ekpri Nsukara in Uyo local government area of the state.
A press statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, said the suspect had been behind high profile robbery and cult practices in and around Uyo metropolis.
According to the statement, one locally made pistol was recovered from him at the time of arrest.

“Following a sustained monitoring, the command’s anti-cultism team arrested one Ernest William Bassey “M” aged 28 years of Okon Eket local government area but resident at No 204 Nwaniba Street, Uyo.
“He was arrested along Ekpri Nsukra in Uyo local government, one locally made pistol was recovered from him,” the statement said.
Bala said investigation was still ongoing and when completed the suspect would be charged to court.
He called on members of the public to continue to volunteer information that could lead to arrest of such criminals to the police in order to rid the society of crime and criminal elements.
