An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced a 23-year-old trader, Mustapha Abdullahi, to 18 months stint in a correctional centre for stealing and causing grievous bodily hurt.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Daodu handed down the sentence following Abdullahi’s  guilty plea to a two-count charge of theft and causing grievous bodily hurt.

The convict had pleaded for leniency.

Daodu sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment without an option of fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Bassey, told the court that Abdullahi, a resident at Mile 12 Market, Lagos, committed the offence on March 1.

He said that the accused stole a Techno phone, valued N25,000, property of one Salisu Abdullahi.

The prosecutor said that Abdullahi after nicking the phone brought out a knife and stabbed the complainant on his chest, thereby causing him serious bodily injury.

Bassey said that the offences contravened Sections 173 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
