Lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Babatunde Hunpe, has reached out to indigent students in his Constituency with educational support to the tune of N6. 25m.
Two hundred and fifty indigent students received N25,000 each.
Hunpe who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Setonji Balogun, made the presentation on Wednesday at the inauguration of the Hunpe Educational Support Initiative at his Ajara, Badagry office.
He said the initiative was part of his campaign to help the indigenes who could not continue their education due to lack of money.
He said: “We are here to present N25,000 each to the first set of 52 indigent students who are schooling in institutions in Nigeria.
“During my campaign, I promised to assist the less privileged by supporting them financially in their studies.
“This is to give a sense of belonging to students from Badagry.
“The 52 students who collected the cash are those that are within. We have students that cannot come around for the money. We will send it to them.
“We are starting the initiative with 250 students from communities in Badagry.

“But I can assure you that as my workers in the seven constituency offices are sending the list to me, I will be giving them the money. This is just to give back to the society where we belong.”
Hunpe said that he had set aside fund to support indigent students to complete their education.
“It is a pity that some parents can’t afford to send their children to school. Consequently, some students gain admission and later drop out.
“I will not allow this to happen to them again,” he added.
The Special Adviser to Hunpe on Education, Mr. Charles Krape, said that the initiative was to support indigent students who intended to further their studies in higher institutions.
He said the lawmaker had promised to help indigent students through the educational support.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Osumare Rilwan, a Mass Communication student at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, told The Nation that the money would assist them.
He said the gesture would make it easy for the beneficiaries to pay their fees as freshers.
Rilwan thanked the lawmaker for his gesture, and prayed that God would continue to bless him.
