Late Balewa Wife’s Death: Buhari Condoles Family

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the family of the late Prime Minister, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, over the loss of Jummai Abubakar, Balewa’s last surviving wife.

She died on Sunday at a private hospital in Lagos.

She was aged 85.

The President also directed the Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha to make available an aircraft from the Presidential fleet to take the remains of the deceased from Lagos to Bauchi where she will be laid to rest on Monday.

he President’s message was contained in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Sunday and sent through the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

The statement quoted Buhari as saying: “It was with the deepest sense of sorrow that I have learnt of the tragic demise of Hajiya Jummai Tafawa Balewa.

“In her sad demise, Nigeria has lost an outstanding figure, who was passionately committed to the cause of the family and the legacies of her late husband.

“I convey my heartfelt condolences to members of the bereaved family, the government and people of Bauchi State and the entire people of our dear country. May Allah repose her soul.”
