The Lagos State Government on Friday directed that all public and private schools in the state must resume for the 2019/2020 academic session on Monday, September 9.
The directive contained in a statement signed by Mr. Kayode Sutton of the Public Affairs department in the state’s Ministry of Education, said this was in compliance with the Uniform School Calendar .
The statement quoted the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, as saying that the adoption of a uniform academic calendar would allow for proper planning and organisation by the Ministry.
She also noted that it would afford the pupils and students the opportunity to attend classes for the prerequisite number of days in each term.
Adefisayo enjoined students in the state to devote more time to their studies on resumption of classes and shun all vices, including internet fraud, thuggery, hooliganism, rape, examination malpractice, alcoholism, drug abuse and cultism.
The commissioner assured that the state government would continue to strive in the capacity building/training of the teaching staff, their welfare and reward for excellence.
She also assured that the government would continue to strive to improve on teaching and learning in all public schools.
The warned that government would not be happy with any private school that violates the approved uniform resumption date for schools in the state adding that any found to have breached the rules would be sanctioned accordingly.
