President Muhammadu Buhari has given the assurance that security agencies will do everything possible to arrest those behind the New Year day killing in Benue State.

No fewer than 20 people were reported killed in an attack carried out by herdsmen in Guma and Logo Local Government Areas of Borno State.

The killing has caused a protest with youth matching through the streets of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The angry youth called on the Presidency to intervene to stop the wanton waste of lives.

But in a statement issued by his media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, on Wednesday, the president commiserated with Governor Samuel Ortom and the people of Benue State in general over the killing.

Particularly, the president commiserated with families of the victims and wished the injured speedy healing.

“This is one attack too many, and everything must be done to provide security for the people in our rural communities,” he said.

While expressing immense sadness at the “wicked and callous” attacks on even innocent children, the president assured the governor and people of the state that relevant security agencies had been directed to do everything possible to arrest those behind the regrettable incidents and avert further attacks.
