Fear gripped students of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, late Monday as suspected gunmen invaded hostels around the institution to disposes students of their valuables, including phones, laptops and cash.
The assailants reportedly attacked off-campus hostels, moving from one hostel to another during the raid, causing panic as students fled for safety.
A student of the institution, identified on X as @yapperaholicc, made a post at about 3:01 am of Tuesday, stating, “Armed men are attacking students in their hostels in EKSU at midnight!!!!!”
The user, who said the attack occurred at the Phase 2 area of the university community, added, “We are supposed to be reading for our exams! It has been going on for three days now!!! They are also robbing us. Please help us repost.”
Reacting to the development, the spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Abutu Sunday, confirmed the development on Tuesday, disclosing that one suspect had been arrested in connection with the attack as investigation continues.
“A suspect has been arrested in connection to the incident, and he is currently undergoing investigation, while necessary measures have been put in place to forestall reoccurrence,” he said.
Meanwhile, students have urged the state government and security agencies to strengthen patrols and improve security around the university community.
