The Centre for Disability Issues, a non-governmental organisation, has appealed to the Federal Government to include People Living With Disabilities (PLWD) in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The group lauded the Federal Government’s initiatives of creating a Ministry for the Physically Challenged, which it said would help in providing employment and create enabling environment for the physically challenged.
Kehinde Oshilaja, the group’s convener, who spoke at a press briefing in Lagos to mark the beginning of preparations for 2019 World Disability Day coming up on December 2, 2019, said physically challenged people were far from being catered for because of their circumstances, hence the need to call on the Federal Government to include them in the NHIS.

He described the Centre for Disability Issues as a non-governmental organisation focusing mainly on welfare of the people living with disabilities.
Oshilaja commended the Lagos State government for creating a special agency (LASODA) saddled with the responsibility of catering for the people with disabilities, and appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to look inwards by restructuring the agency, so that its aim and vision could be realized.
Remi Sofolahan, former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, commended the group, especially Oshilaja, also blind, for acting as spokesman of the group.
He appealed to them to speak in one voice so that they could be heard, while also appealing to government to intensify support to People Living With Disabilities (PLWD), as “we are all human beings and were equally born.”
