Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, visited his Benue state counterpart, Samuel Ortom in Makurdi, the state capital where he commissioned two major road projects executed by the latter.
Gov. Wike who landed at the Makurdi Airport at about 10a.m proceeded to commission the road from Customary Court to George Akume road which Ortom named after his predecessor, Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam.
Shortly after that, Wike also proceeded to commission the over 40 kilometre Imande – Akpu – Gbajimba road, in Guma Local Government Area, the Governor’s home town.
Our correspondent reports that while the 4.5km Customary Court road, now Gabriel Torwua Suswam road cost N702 million, the Gbajimba road was constructed at the cost of N6.1billion.
Wike commended Gov. Ortom for constructing the roads saying it was the best legacy to leave for the people.
While praising Ortom for relating well with his people, Wike urged every one in Benue to support his administration
to succeed saying, “I have been to Benue before but, what I have seen today is unprecedented. I keep asking him if it was from the sale of yam that he is doing this.”

Ortom in his remarks appreciated Gov. Wike for honouring the invitation to come to Benue, describing him as a true friend who had shown much love for Benue people.
He said Wike had always visited, spoken out and stood for the state during the stormy and critical times and has continued to support the state.
He explained that the people of the area had yearned for the road and had made several appeals for its construction, stressing that the nightmare experienced during rainy season had become a thing of the past.
Ortom pledged to continue to provide the necessary infrastructure that will ease the lives of Benue people and encourage economic growth in the state.
Also speaking, the Tor Lobi, Chief Moses Anagende and Guma Local Government Council Chairman, Mr. Caleb Aba commended the Governor for the construction of the road saying it has shortened the journey from Makurdi to Gbajimba which hitherto took more than two hours for a mere 30 minutes trip.
The Guma Local government Chairman pledged total support of his people to Gov. Ortom’s administration to enable him succeed.
