Gov. Umar Bago of Niger has commiserated with Kwara Government over the boat mishap that claimed the lives of more than 100 people in the state.
A statement by Alhaji Ibrahim Bologi, Chief Secretary to the Governor in Minna on Wednesday, said the governor was shocked and concerned over the disaster.
Bago described the incident as heartbreaking and sympathetic and urged the families of the deceased to accept the loss of their loved ones as an act of God.
He commended the efforts of the Chairman, Mokwa Local Government and the Acting Director-General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), for taking necessary steps to assist in rescuing some victims.
The governor advised the people, especially those around riverine communities, to ensure the use of life jackets when boarding a boat and avoid midnight boarding and overloading.

He prayed for the repose of those that lost their lives, quick recovery of the injured, and for Allah to comfort the Government of Kwara State, Patigi Emirate Council and deceased families.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident occurred on Monday when the victims were returning from a wedding ceremony from Egboti, a neighbouring community with Mokwa Local Government area and Kwara.
The affected communities Ebu, Dzaka, Para and Kpada under Patigi Emirate Council in Kwara.
So far, 33 dead bodies have been recovered while rescue operation was ongoing. (NAN)
