National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, Yerima Shettima, has said Nigerians deserved better than they got from the just concluded general elections.
Speaking at a peace and unity rally organised by the Nigerian Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders Forum in Lagos on Tuesday, Shettima noted that the elections have been a clear rape of democracy in the country.
According to him, the rally was therefore organised in protest against the injustice meted out to Nigerians during the elections.
He said all well meaning Nigerians must join hands to save democracy in the country, which he described as being threatened.
“This rally is as a result of fallback on the elections. We felt Nigerians deserve more than what they are experiencing in recent times.
“From the presidential election to the governorship election, there was a clear demonstration of rape on our democracy.

“We feel this is not what we envisaged, something went wrong. For us, we have no other home than this country and if democracy is threatened, allwell meaning Nigerians must come round to do the right thing,” Shettima said.
He condemned the massive rigging that characterised the last elections insisting that Nigerians must rally together to ensure democracy thrives in the country .
“This is a clarion call that all hands must be on deck to save democracy, since it has been threatened.
“The election had been massively rigged and the sensibility of Nigerians has been abused and Nigerians demonstrated that in the last election by not coming out to perform their civic duty,” he said.
Also speaking, the National President of the Yoruba Youth Worldwide, Oladotun Hassan, stressed the need to sensitise Nigerians not to allow ethnicity, political affiliation or religious sentiment divide the country.
He also warned the leaders and politicians that, their political parties notwithstanding, “they must not play the card of ethnicity because it is very dangerous.”
