The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Benue Command, Mr. David Mendie, has said three deaths and six crashes were recorded during the last Eid-el-Kabir patrol in Benue State.

Speaking in a telephone interview with The Next Edition on their activities during the Sallah break, in Makurdi, Wednesday, Mandie said 54 lives were saved while 26 were injured.

According to him, not fewer than 319 motorists were arrested and convicted by a mobile court for committing various traffic offences.

Mendie said the mobile court session was the second since the commencement of Special Sallah Patrol in the state.

He said 319 motorists were tried for violating traffic rules out of a total number of 344 offences and they were found guilty.

He said the prevalent offences as shown in the report of operation were non-installation of speed limiters, non-possession of driver’s licence and dangerous driving.

“A total of 344 motorists were found guilty but 319 were tried and all were convicted,” he said.

Recall that the FRSC in Benue had deployed 134 personnel to ensure smooth traffic during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

The sector commander said the one-week-long special Sallah patrol started on August 17 and ended on August 26.

He further expressed the determination of the agency to ensure a free-flow of traffic in the state at all times.
