With the Nigeria’s quest for industrialisation on the front burner, a call has gone to both the federal and state governments to lay more emphasis on technological training of youths and students, if the nation will develop.
Dr. Yemisi Yani-Sholoye, Managing Director, A & A Gobal Services, who spoke to newsmen on the sideline of a training camp organised by Tata Motors Limited in Lagos, also stressed that the nation’s institutions of higher learning to ensure that undergraduates acquire technological training while in school.
She stressed that with knowledge of information technology, Nigerian graduates would attain greater heights in fields of engineering, saying that this would impact positively on the nation.
Dr. Yani-Sholoye also called on foundations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), philanthropists and corporate bodies to sponsor students in the area of technology as she described technological studies as a catalyst to development.
She also called on companies to encourage and sponsor training and retraining of their workers to impact technological knowledge in them, not only in the interests of the workers themselves and the firms, but for the nation’s advancement.

She stressed: “The federal and state governments should encourage empowerment programmes for the unemployed youths. The government should run programmes to encourage even those in higher institutions, especially in the area of technology.
“The government should also support foundations that encourage and embark on empowerment schemes aimed art uplifting the youths to help reduce unemployment in the country.”
The training camp, a one day event, attracted staff and customers of Tata Motors Limited.
Dennis Njoku, the company’s Training Manager, while speaking to the participants, also stressed the need for Nigerians to acquire technology training, which he said was what made the company successful.
He stressed that its founder, Jamsetji Tata, had his mind focused on the development of India when after his education, he ensured that his firm went into steel development and power, among others, which he explained was the foundation for technological development.
