Justice Minister and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN), has said plans were afoot to immediately establish an inter-ministerial committee to address rising cases of rape in the country.
Malami also announced plans to meet with attorneys general of the 36 states to work out measures against the menace and ensure speedy trial of culprits.

The AGF disclosed these in a statement by his Special Assistance on Media, Dr. Umar Gwnadu, on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the AGF said the government will immediately inaugurate an inter-ministerial gender-based Violence Management Committee that will comprise functional and skilled officers from, but not limited to, the Federal Ministry of Justice, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development Programme, Federal Ministry of Health, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Nigerian Legal Aid Council, Nigeria Police Force, Civil Society Organisations (SCOs), among others.”
