The Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum has declared that the fear of using electronic voting system in the coming election was responsible for the refusal of the President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the Electoral Bill sent to him by the National Assembly.
The governor of the leading opposition party said the All Progressives Congress, APC, was indeed afraid of the introduction of technology in the electoral system.
The position of the forum is contained in the communiqué issued after its meeting held in Abuja.
In the document signed by its chairman, Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, the forum also accused the government of using security agencies against dissenting voices.
“We observe that security agencies have become organs and tools of the APC-led Federal Government to harass and intimidate the opposition and dissenting voices.

“The Forum decries the use of security agencies to perpetrate electoral fraud as it happened in Ekiti, Osun and Rivers.
“We urge security agencies to be non-partisan in the performance of their duties in accordance with the provisions of the constitution,’’ the communiqué reads.
Similarly, the forum expressed its opposition to the invasion of the residence of the home of elder statesman, Edwin Clark, by policemen who claimed they were searching for arms kept in the building.
The forum also cast a vote of no confidence on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
It called on it to prove its independence by ensuring free and fair elections.
