The Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Wednesday reported the highest number of new COVID-19 infections with 40 cases.
This is as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said Nigeria recorded 176 cases on the day in review to push the total infections across the country to 55,632.
The new cases, the health agency said were reported from 16 states and the FCT.
Tweeting on its official handle, on Wednesday night, NCDC also disclosed that three death were recorded on Wednesday, bringing to 1,070 the total number of fatalities from the virus.
It further stated that 43,610 cases have been discharged so far across the country.
Details of the new cases are as follows; – FCT (40), Lagos (34), Plateau (26), Enugu (14), Delta (12), Ogun (12), Ondo (9), Oyo (8), Ekiti (6), Ebonyi (4), Adamawa (2), Nasarawa (2), Kwara(2), Rivers (2), Edo (1), Osun (1) and Bauchi (1).

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the disease has topped 900,000 since the index case was reported in China late last year, according to an AFP tally late Wednesday.
It said a total of 900,052 Covid-19 deaths have been registered worldwide, from 27,711,866 declared cases of the virus.
Latin American and the Caribbean are the worst-hit region, accounting for 300,340 deaths, followed by Europe with 219,616 fatalities, according to the AFP tally based on official statistics.
