Facebook on Tuesday announced the introduction of publisher logos next articles in Trending and Search surfaces on its platform (www.Facebook.com).
The measure is a part of the social media giant to enhance users’ recognition of the sources of news distributed on the platform.
Facebook Product Manager, Andrew Anker, said with the innovation, publishers will be able to upload multiple versions of their logos through a new Brand Asset Library.
“Publishers will now be able to upload multiple versions of their logos through a new Brand Asset Library so that the logos can appear next to their content on Facebook,” Mr. Anker said in a statement.
“We built this in close collaboration with a number of partners, as part of the Facebook Journalism Project, and are now rolling this out more broadly to all publishers.
“To start, we are introducing these logo treatments exclusively for articles in Trending and Search, but the eventual goal is to extend these to all places where people consume news on our platform.”
Enhancing people’s awareness of the sources of content they read on Facebook
Research has shown when people see a link to an article, it can be difficult for them to associate it with a source.
A recent study by the Pew Research Center found that only 56 percent of respondents could recall the source of a new link viewed on social sites (Pew Report, February 2017) (http://APO.af/RjWz8D).
According to Facebook, surfacing publisher logos next to article links will make it easier for publishers to extend their brand identity.
The move is also expected to enhance people’s awareness of the source of content and to make a decision on what they want to read and share.
Now, publishers who upload their logos through the new Brand Asset Library will be eligible to see their logos in http://APO.af/SpWX5s.
To access the new product, content creators are expected to upload their logo assets through a new Brand Asset Library located under Publishing Tools on their page.
The company has also provided a step by step guide on how to get started and logo requirements on http://APO.af/SpWX5s while multimedia contents could be accessed through the link (http://APO.af/L8AWsg).
“We’ll continue to solicit feedback and explore additional opportunities to reinforce publisher brand on Facebook,” Mr. Anker said.
“We look forward to continued collaboration with partners in support of a more informed community.”
