Enugu explosion caused by battery spark -Police

The explosion in a former market on the outskirts of Enugu was caused by a battery spark.

The Police Command in Enugu State made this known on Wednesday in a statement by its spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu.

Although he said further investigations were ongoing, he explained that a heavy-duty battery negative and positive in the scrap had contact with metal scrap and led to the explosion.

His words:  “The preliminary investigations have revealed that there was a fire contact with the battery at the scrap site of the former market.’’

It would be recalled that on Monday, there was an explosion at the scrap section of a former New Artisan Market on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Road on the outskirts of Enugu.

The police command dispatched its Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) to the scene to ensure safety of lives and property.
