Mrs. Ijeoma Enekwa, a HR & Media Consultant, has emerged the first Global President of the Egbu Girls Old Girls Association (EGOGA).

She was elected by the Old Girls on Saturday during their first global reunion which kicked off on December 19.

The reunion will end on Sunday, Dec. 22 with a thanksgiving service at the school chapel.

Speaking with the Next Edition shortly after her election, Enekwa, who expressed gratitude to God for the success of the reunion, noted that she has a lot of priorities as the new leader of the Old Girls.

She said: “I have a of priorities, but the major thing is to bring all stakeholders together. The stakeholders include the government which is the greatest stakeholder; the Anglican Diocese of Egbu, the Egbu community, the school authorities – principal and teachers as well as parents and guardians.

“We need all the help to further the vision of the Old Girls for the school.”

Next in her list of priorities, she said is to have an architectural design of the boarding area of the school.

“I don’t want to encourage new structures until we have an architectural design of the area. This will help us to know what should be where to bring the school to world standard.

Many secondary schools have left where we are. In fact many of them look like universities and that’s our goal.

“If we can get these done, enrolment in the school will double or triple,” she added.

Earlier in her acceptance speech, Mrs. Enekwa thanked all Old Girls especially, the old Old Girls for their support and contributions in helping the association kick off.

Mrs. Ijeoma Enekwa graduated from the Girls’ Second school, Egbu, in 1974 from where she proceeded to the Queen of the Rosary School, Onitsha, for higher education.

On completing her A level studies, she proceeded to Rivers State where she had a brief stint in teaching.

She soon left her teaching job and joined the Imo Broadcasting Station, Aba, as the first and only female reporter.

After a while, she left for the US, where she pursued a degree in Political Science and Communication and a Masters in Public Administration.

On completion of her education, she worked for the Tennessee State Government at very senior level until she returned to Nigeria in 1992.

She joined the Champion Newspapers Ltd where she rose to become the General Manager, Admin and Personnel.

After a meritorious service at Champion Newspapers, Enekwa left to establish her own business, a HR and Media Consultancy Firm, Upbound Consultancy Ltd where she is the Managing Consultant.

She is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management and three time treasurer of the association.

She is a wife, mother and grandmother.
