The 45-year-old suspect, Mr. Ismail Yakubu, who informed the police that elder statesman, Edwin Clark, had arms stored in his residence has explained the reason behind his action.
The intention, he said, was to ensure a safe Federal Capital Territory.
Yakubu gave the reason on Wednesday when he was paraded by the police.
It would be recalled that four policemen invaded the residence of the Ijaw leader under the excuse that they were looking for arms kept away in his residence.
The invasion followed the information supplied by Yakubu.
The Nigeria Police Force has since described the action of the policemen as illegal and tendered apology to Clark.
Answering journalists’ question when, on Wednesday, he said he was in a taxi car around ECOWAS secretariat in Abuja on his way to Haile Sallase when he was held up in traffic.
According to him, upon enquiry from the driver, the reason for the gridlock, he explained that it was because a truck carrying ammunition was making its way into House 42 which incidentally is that of Chief Edwin Clark.

Yakubu said upon hearing that, he alighted from the vehicle and the next day he reported the case to the police.
His words: “On Monday, exactly around 4 0’clock, I was called to come and receive a message at the back of ECOWAS… When reaching the back of ECOWAS Secretariat on my way to a street called Haile Sallase, the whole street was blocked.
“When I started asking the question about what was happening, it was the taxi man that said it is the area where Niger Delta people are living. The taxi man now said I should look at a truck that was entering the compound.
“I checked the compound, and the compound was house 42. It was a white Hilux. He said the road was blocked to allow it to enter. He said the Hilux truck that was entering was full of ammunitions
“I met Inspector Sada, and told him what I heard yesterday. I mentioned the house number to them, then we went there.”
