Wife of the Edo State governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, has assured of government’s committed to transforming lives of inmates of Oko prisons.

Mrs. Obaseki gave the assurance while celebrating the 58th Independence anniversary with the inmates of the Medium Security Prison in Benin City.

She promised to upgrade the skills acquisition centre in the prisons as well as integrate the inmates in the schemes of her empowerment programme.

She said: “I will partner with the management and staff of prisons to develop a proper skill acquisition curriculum so as to carry everyone along.”

She charged the inmates to take seriously whatever skills they learnt, promising to give soft loans to those who would be finishing their jail terms and had acquired skills, and to help secure jobs for those who had graduated from various institutions.

Receiving the First Lady, Mr Joseph Usendiah, the Edo State Controller of Prisons, disclosed that the Controller General, Ja’afaru Ahmed, was pursuing long term sustainable growth in Nigeria Prison Service in the areas of training and retraining of staff, infrastructural investments and adding value for inmates.
