A Bayelsa based journalist and Publisher of the Weekly Source magazine, Jones Abiri, who was arrested on Saturday by armed men suspected to be operatives of the Department of State Service, DSS, has been released.
He regained his freedom on Monday afternoon from the secret police’s detention facility in Abuja, according to his lawyer.
Abiri had been arrested by four men who stormed the premises of his publication in Yenagoa. The men, who were armed, were said to have arrived his premises in a Toyota Hilux truck and forcefully took him away in the presence of some of his friends and colleagues.

The DSS on Saturday, denied knowledge of the arrest.
According to his lawyer, Samuel Ogala, Abiri was released around 2:00 p.m. Monday.
Though no official statement had been issued to clarify the arrest, Ogala said the terms of the release would be disclosed later.
Abiri’s arrest on Saturday comes seven months after he was released from a two-year detention.
He sued the DSS and was awarded N10 million damages.
