Following the statement credited to Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland and National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Iba Gani Adams that the organization may later become a political party, three other factions of the group have kicked against such plan.

Adeshina Akinpelu, speaking on behalf of three other factions of the group comprising OPC Fredrick Faseun, OPC New Era and OPC Reformed, urged Gani Adams to use his name or any of the groups he has personally founded to float a political party and leave OPC alone as militant group saddled with the responsibility of defending the Yorubaland.

According to him, “The statement credited to Gani Adams that Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) might later become a political party is not only laughable but very disgusting. Who is Gani Adams to decide the fates of millions of OPC members worldwide?

“Even Dr. Fredrick Faseun, the founder of OPC, didn’t attempt to transform OPC into political party while alive and now one recluse and ingrate is trying to destroy the legacies of OPC founding fathers.”

The OPC factions also accused Adams of fanning embers of disunity within the OPC by failing to allow harmonisation of the group.

“Gani Adams, the self-acclaimed OPC leader, is the only one frustrating the ongoing moves to make OPC one. Rather than proferring solutions to security challenges bedevilling us in Yorubaland, Gani Adams is looking for another way to make money for himself by turning OPC into a political party.

“We know that he has always engaged in politics for pecuniary motives but turning OPC into political party is what we cannot accept.”

The factions urged Yoruba leaders, Yoruba sons and daughters to be wary of Adams’ antics of being an agent of the Fulanis and who has never genuinely worked for the interest of Yoruba people, except his own interest.

“For some of us who know Adams for who he is, we can tell you he is an agent working for the Fulani oligarchy. Ask him, who bankrolled his Aare Ona Kakanfo’s expenses? Ask him about his involvement in politics where he once promised a former President of 6 million votes after collecting huge sums of money? We totally reject the move by Gani Adams to turn OPC into political party.”
