Security has been beefed up around the vicinity of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, venue of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
This is as the tribunal is set to deliver judgment in the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar challenging the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari’s in the Feb. 23 general elections.
Security personnel comprising men of the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps mounted checks at both ends of the road to the court.
Lawyers, journalists and all who arrived the court premises located in the Three Arms Zone, were subjected to checks by the security personnel.
The petitioners had challenged the results of the election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which gave Buhari victory with 15,191,847 votes, while Atiku came second with 11,262,978 votes.
They claimed that they won with over 1 million votes.
The petitioners claimed that the results from INEC’s server showed that Atiku polled 18,356,732 votes to defeat Buhari who got 16,741,430 votes.
