A former Commissioner for Public Transportation in Lagos State, Mr. Lanre Razak, has said that efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State to contain the deadly COVID-19 deserve support of all Nigerians to succeed and not condemnation.

Razak, a member of the Lagos Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), also criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for blaming the president for the spread of the pandemic in the country cautioning the opposition not to politicise the disease.

He said all hands must be on deck to halt the Coronavirus from escalating rather than condemning the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Federal Government to score cheap political point.

Razak also commended the federal and Lagos State governments over the way they had handled the issue of the pandemic since the first incident case of an Italian was reported.

In a statement in Lagos on Monday, he noted that several steps had already been taken, including the setting up of Presidential Task Force headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, whose members include competent professionals.

According to him, the committee which had been giving daily update on COVID-19 had given Nigerians confidence that governments would spare no efforts to guarantee their safety and welfare.

While praising the Federal Government’s for its guidelines of easing the five-week lockdown in Lagos and Ogun states as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, which was already causing untold hardship on the people, Razak explained that the strategy has allowed for saving the national economy from collapse and ensuring financial survival of the people.

He further commended Sanwo-Olu for his relentless efforts at treating patients at the various isolation centres and preventing further spread of the virus in the state and by extension to the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
