COVID-19: Benue Govt To Fumigate Markets, Hospitals, Schools

As part of proactive measures to curtail the spread of Coronavirus disease, Benue state government said it is making plans to fumigate all markets in the state.

State Governor Samuel Ortom disclosed this on Wednesday when he went round markets in Makurdi town to monitor the level of compliance to the stay at home order of the federal government.

He also noted that state government has concluded plans to fumigate hospitals and schools in the state to ensure that all ciizens are safe from the virus.

Addressing residents at the wadata market, Gov. Ortom observed with displeasure that the market was still open against state government’s directive.

He announced to them that government has shut down all markets in Makurdi and appealed to marketers and residents to stay at home and off the markets saying “today we are here to create more awareness and we are begging you to stay at home, but tomorrow, we will not beg you and if you insist on coming to the market, security men will handle you.”

At the Makurdi Modern Market, the Governor observed with happiness that the market was completely closed and traders complied fully. It was also observed that the market management was cleaning all drainages to prevent flooding of the market as the rain approaches.

Ortom commended the market management for cleaning up the market and urged residents to also observe high hygeine in their homes.

The Governor who informed that the state has recorded one case said there are 151 cases in the country and Benue people must adhere strictly to safety measure to prevent themselves from contacting the virus.

The Governor in company of the Commissioner for Health, Information, security agents, the media among other dignitaries visited Modern markert, Wadata market, Wurukum market and North Bank market all in Makurdi.
